Bharat Ratna for Sachin Tendulkar ?…It’s a rhetoric question !
We need to Lift him up too now just as he has carried all of India for over 20 years !
The Voice to award him India’s highest civilian award began gathering some intensity as we entered the 21st century…it was too early then….a decade later now it’s the perfect time to do so…so do it !
Freedom Fighters united India and won us Freedom in 1947…many have deservedly been awarded the ‘Bharat Ratna’
Sachin Tendulkar, with his iconic Cricketing status and genuis has united the Country yet again when it is being torn apart with Corruption,Communalism and Criminality….he is truly India’s purest and brightest and flawless ‘Gem’ at the moment and a great Inspiration to not only India’s 1.2 billion but even to many millions around the world…he embodies the best in a human being on this planet…..in soul, spirit and endeavour….you can feel his ‘aura’…warms you…cleanses you in a way……
Heard World Champion Cueist,Geet Sethi on CNN IBN echoing his views that Sports do not come under ‘Public Service’ and there are many like Vishwanathan Anand,Leander Paes and Abhinav Bindra who are also World Champions in their Sports Disciplines and therefore they too should deserve the ‘Bharat Ratna’ if Sachin does !…he also feels the award criteria should not be based on the popularity of the discipline…..Come on ! Geet !…Is it Sachin’s fault that Cricket is a Religion in India !…..Sachin has transformed people…millions of us…unified us….motivated and inspired us….not only how Cricket should be played but how Life should be lived and Challenges faced to overcome them !….this is ‘Public Service’ of the Supreme Order
Sachin may not need this Award but we need to bestow it on him !..as Dhoni passionately observes for Sachin ” if he does not get it then no one else can get it!”….and Sachin will never demand it like Sitara Devi did when she turned down the Padma Bhushan
Sachin is Destiny’s Child and his Destiny is to receive the ‘Bharat Ratna’ now…be the youngest recepient at 37 years of age…..not ten or twenty or thirty years down the line and definitely not posthomously like many have received in the past !
We need to be unconditionally and unreservedly and unapologetically and unanimously united in this……..I know we are fortunate to live as free citizens of a great Democracy …but please no dissentions !
Sachin Tendulkar for ‘Bharat Ratna’
Cheers !

Surprising that none of the cricketers have publicly extended support to Anna Hazare.
The whole nation was behind them during WC. Now, they are hesitant to give back to the common man….
Cowards!
I agree with you Gaurav sir, I liked Dravids comment , SAchin is Bharat Ratna !
People obsess about Bharat Ratna for Ferrari driving folks who don’t want to pay import duties & never take up causes which country cares about (except the mandatory CSR to brush up their image)
If anyone deserves Bharat Ratna it is probably a combo of Anna Hazare & Arvind Kejriwal for they have made a difference to the lives of 1.21 Billion ppl. by forcing the Govt to enact RTI act first in Maharashtra & then nationally.
They will also soon be chiefly responsible for , hopefully, enacting a ‘Jan Lok Pal Bill’ which will transform the country forever & not just the cricket watching folks of India who still are a minority when you consided the majority who have no electricity/water let alone TV’s to watch Cricket!
P.S Is this blog turning into a ‘cricket blog’ ?
Dear Swaroop,
There is no doubt that Anna Hazare and Kejriwal will become legendary…they are already on this path…. in their lifetime for this just activism……and maybe Bharat Ratna may be in their destiny….but it certainly is in Sachin Tendulakar’s…he has already given unparralleled joy and visibly unified our nation across all differences…..but I can see you are clearly not inclined to support the cry for awarding the Bharat Ratna to him…..and apologise if the last twenty ! (I may be exaggerating) blogs have been on cricket….the cricket passion got to me…was overwhelmed with India winning the Cup…..but promise will not give IPL, that begins today, that much importance !….and thanks for giving contrarion views for a balanced and dispassionate and objective assessment by those who read this blog….but I hope it does not beocme a habit !…and that we do agree on most !…..Cheers !
I also don’t support Sachin for Bharat Ratna. He doesn’t deserve this.
He has done NOTHING for poor indian citizens…
If giving unparalleled joy is a criteria for Bharat Ratna, then all Bollywood stars would line up for one..
Why is he not unifying nation for fight against corruption. Caz these guys need support of politicians..
Selfish guys!
Why not Anna Hazare. His mission and work holds more importance than Sachin Tendulkar.
I agree with Madhu. The cricketers are selfish creatures playing for their personal gains, records and money.
Gaurav, it seems the euphoria of watching cricket and winning the world cup has got better of your wisdom. If Sachin can be given a Bharat Ratna then I think the supreme award like Bharat Ratna will not have any meaning and would loose its stature and purpose. Without undermining any of his achievements thinking of Sachin as bharat Ratna is too far fetched and even childish.
A gifted cricketer that he is, destiny has given him the supreme talent and skill that he posseses and he plays his part well. But he doesn’t in any way influences the major part of the society to help uplift their esteem marred by all the worst things you can think of. Sachin is a fantastic cricketer who plays good Cricket in a country where cricket is a religion, but the story ends there. To me his works have an entertainment value and the wins that team india posts gives me some kind of false pride of our country, its people and processes. But when I come out of this fools paradise, I see retail and wholesale corruption all around, pathetic governance, rotten and power drenched beuracrats, loot lobby of the builders, criminals, haves and have nots et all..and pity that I dont find any Sachin tendulkar there who can craft an inning of systemic change in India’s political and civil structure. We want that Sachin to be conferred the Bharat Ratna not the one who plays though excellent cricket but hypnotise people to get into a false sense of pride. The recent movement against corruption has raised some hopes but I don’t know if Anna Hazare will bat like sachin or get out like Sehwag after a good flashy start. May mother India produce many more Sachin’s for real national cause and we as participant in our democracy happily confer them with Bharat Ratnas !!
It’s very easy to get carried away in the mass euphoria after the world cup victory, but if you put your statesmanship hat on, you would realise how immaturish the thought is to award Sachin Tendulkar The Bharat Ratna.
Hey NSri….you do express yourself quite eloquently….enjoyed your response…especially the wisdom barb !….Intelligence and Wisdom are clearly distinctive…and if it does bring a smile to your face,my wife has reserved her opinion on me for both !…Amusing !….and clearly Sachin Tendulkar for Bharat Ratna ? is not rhetorical !…no unanimty here…. dissensions responses confirm this….but there has to be unanimity on this that our highest civilian award should not be given away so lightly as it has been done in the past on numerous occasions….we have had 41 awarded the Bharat Ratna !….that’s an average of three every four years since 1954 when the Award was instituted !….when it should have been perhaps just one or two fully deserving in a decade…..check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bharat_Ratna for the full list of 41 Awardees…Names of PMs and Presidents dominate….Thanks for your response NSri…..Cheers !
A cricketer, however popular, does not deserve the highest honour of our country because the game of cricket is no longer a gentleman’s game to be proud of. Also, cricket does not contribute anything to the well being of people. By this count, someday, Salman Khan may also be awarded!
This is actually a ploy of a corrupt and ideologically bankrupt government to distract the angry people with useless debate.
